    Family & Partner Visa

Family and Partner visas cover several categories, including Partner, Prospective Marriage, Parent and Child visas. Each category has different eligibility requirements and processing times. Choosing the right visa category based on your relationship and circumstances is an important first step in planning your application.

One nav label, several visas: partner, prospective marriage, parent, and child each run on separate rules and timelines.

    Service Process

Family and partner visas live or die on evidence, and what counts depends heavily on your category. We confirm which category applies first, then build the right evidence around it, financial and relationship-based for partners, sponsorship-based for parents.

The family and partner visa process runs on three commitments:

We confirm the right visa category before collecting evidence.
We provide realistic timelines from the first consultation.
We guide sponsors through their responsibilities and requirements.
What counts as evidence of a genuine relationship?
The Department assesses financial, household, social, and commitment evidence together, not any single document. A consultation reviews what's available and what still needs to be gathered.
What's the difference between an onshore and offshore partner application?
Onshore applications (subclass 820/801) require the applicant to be in Australia. Offshore applications (subclass 309/100) are lodged from outside Australia. Eligibility and process differ between the two.
How long do parent visas take?
This varies enormously by subclass. Contributory parent visas generally process faster than non-contributory ones, though both involve multi-year queues, and non-contributory categories can run considerably longer. Current queue positions are checked against the Department of Home Affairs' own data before setting expectations.
Can my children be included in a partner or parent visa application?
Dependent children can often be included, and children born after lodgement can typically be added before a permanent decision is made, though this depends on the specific visa category.
